Visual Space manual, Live Apps, Use Frames In A Meeting
Use Frames on a meeting stage when you want to explore a video sequence without leaving the conversation. You will open or create a Frames project, work with its local timeline tools, move between meeting layouts, and finish without mistaking the project entry for a saved edit.
Use Frames on a meeting stage when you want to explore a video sequence without leaving the conversation. You will open or create a Frames project, work with its local timeline tools, move between meeting layouts, and finish without mistaking the project entry for a saved edit.
Before You Start
Frames is available in supported activity meetings. Live Apps are not available in direct-message calls.
Before opening it, check that:
•
You have joined the activity meeting and can open its stage.
•
You can access the space area that contains the Frames project you want to use.
•
You have Coordinator and area access if you need to create a new Frames project.
•
Everyone understands that the Frames project identity can persist, but its timeline content is local to each participant's current session.
If the sequence matters beyond the call, plan to record its decisions somewhere durable. Frames cannot yet save the editing content or render an export.
Put A Frames Project On Stage
•
Open the app picker - On the meeting stage, choose Live Apps to see the supported meeting workspaces; the meeting Live Apps guide explains how the shared stage behaves.
•
Choose Frames - Select Frames. This opens the Frames Explorer for the meeting activity. If Frames is already active in the meeting, choosing it returns you to that existing live-app feed instead of starting another one.
Choose Frames from the meeting picker to browse or create a project for the stage.
•
Browse the activity area - Move through the available areas and folders until you find an eligible Frames project. Only projects you can access appear as choices.
•
Open an existing project - Select the project you want to place on stage. Its name becomes the Frames identity shown by the meeting, and the timeline opens as a fresh local session.
•
Create a project when needed - Choose New Frames project in the appropriate area if your Coordinator and area access allow it. Creation adds a durable project entry to that activity, then opens it on stage. If creation fails, no editor is opened.
You have succeeded when the Frames workspace fills the selected meeting feed and its top bar shows the project name. This confirms which project the meeting is using, not that its timeline contents have been saved or synchronized.

The title identifies the project on stage; the assembled timeline remains local to your current session.
Assemble And Review During The Call
Frames provides the same local timeline workspace on the meeting stage as it does outside a meeting. You can add eligible local clips, work with captions, text, audio, overlays, and adjustments, move the playhead, and use tools such as Select, Blade, Trim, Marker, undo, redo, and timeline zoom.
•
Build the local sequence - Add and arrange the material you need for the discussion. Successful changes enter your local undo history, but do not become durable project content.
•
Preview the timing shell - Play, pause, scrub, loop, and switch between Fit and Fill when the preview is ready. Playback remains a local timing aid rather than synchronized media playback.
•
Mark discussion points - Add markers or timestamp comments to return to moments during your session. These notes are local aids; they are not meeting messages and do not appear in another participant's Frames session.
•
Check the current state - Use the project title, timeline, playhead, and local history to confirm what is present in your own workspace. Do not use another participant's reaction as proof that their editor shows the same state.
The meeting can share the active Frames project identity and feed. It does not share your edits, selection, playback position, markers, or comments. There is no presenter mode that gives one participant synchronized control of everyone else's Frames workspace.
If everyone needs to follow one person's exact timeline, coordinate verbally or use the meeting's screen sharing. A screen share lets others watch that screen, but it does not turn Frames into collaborative editing or copy the draft into their sessions.
Navigate The Meeting Without Resetting Frames
Ordinary meeting layout changes preserve the open local editor. You can move between Grid, Stage, and Focus, select other meeting feeds, or show and hide meeting panels without clearing the timeline you have assembled.
•
Change the layout - Choose the layout that gives the discussion the right balance between Frames and participant feeds.
•
Return to the Frames feed - Select the active Frames feed when you want its workspace back in focus. Your local playhead, edits, and review state should still be present after a layout-only change.
•
Open the project selector carefully - The Frames tools are hidden while the Frames Explorer is open. Close the selector or choose a project to return to the editor; the missing tools do not by themselves mean the session was lost.
As a checkpoint, make a small recognizable local change before switching layouts, then return to Frames and confirm it remains. Layout changes preserve local state; project changes do not.
Switch Projects Only When You Are Ready To Reset
Opening the general Live Apps picker and switching a Frames project are different actions. The picker opens or returns to the Frames meeting feed. Once Frames is active, the Project action in its top bar opens the Frames Explorer specifically for changing the project used by that feed.
•
Review the reset boundary - Assume the current timeline, playback position, referenced assets, markers, comments, clipboard, and edit history will be discarded when you select another Frames project.
•
Choose Project - Use Project only when the group is ready to leave the current local draft.
•
Select the replacement - Open or create the next eligible project. The meeting keeps the Frames feed active, but the editor starts a new empty local session under the replacement project's identity.
•
Verify the change - Check the project name in the top bar and confirm the timeline now belongs to the newly selected project session.
Closing the selector without selecting a replacement is the safe way to return when you opened it by mistake. Do not switch away in the hope that the existing sequence will be waiting inside the previous project later.
End The Session Safely
Before closing Frames or leaving the meeting, pause and decide whether the discussion has produced anything that must survive. The named project remains available in its space area, but the assembled edit does not.
•
Capture durable decisions elsewhere - Record agreed timing, copy, asset choices, or follow-up work in an appropriate saved article or document.
•
Do not rely on Export - The Export panel can preview settings and possible job states, but it cannot render, publish, or create a downloadable video.
•
Tell the room before closing - Closing a live app stops it for everyone, and any participant still relying on a local Frames session can lose that work surface.
•
Close the app if you started it - On desktop, hover the Frames feed to reveal its close action, or open its context menu. On a touch device, long-press the feed. The feed-level close control is available to the participant who started the live app.
•
Treat every close control as shared - An active app can also expose Close app from the Live Apps picker. Use it only when the room is ready, because it stops Frames for everyone rather than merely hiding your own view.
•
Leave only after the local boundary is clear - Refreshing, leaving the workspace, changing projects, or finishing the meeting does not preserve the edit content. Remaining live apps close when the meeting ends.
If Something Does Not Work
•
Frames is missing from Live Apps - Confirm that this is an activity meeting. Direct-message calls do not support live apps.
•
A project is missing - Check that you are browsing the correct activity area or folder and that you have access to it.
•
You cannot create a project - Creation requires eligible Coordinator access and permission to the selected area. Open an existing accessible project or ask an appropriate space member to create one.
•
The Frames tools disappeared - Close the open project selector. Frames hides its editor tools while that selector is visible.
•
The timeline reset - A different project was selected, the workspace was left or refreshed, or the meeting live app ended. Only the project identity persists.
•
Other participants cannot follow your edits - This is expected. Share your screen if the room needs to watch one workspace, and use saved collaboration tools for decisions that must persist.
•
Export will not start - Rendering and downloadable output are not available in the current Frames workspace.
