Visual Space manual, Notifications, Notification Center

The Notification Center gives signed-in users one low-noise place to catch important activity and return to the work behind it. It brings together selected content, space, recognition, engagement, role, and Visual Space notices without replacing the unread indicators that belong to chats and direct messages.

The Notification Center gives signed-in users one low-noise place to catch important activity and return to the work behind it. It brings together selected content, space, recognition, engagement, role, and Visual Space notices without replacing the unread indicators that belong to chats and direct messages.

Open The Panel And Scan What Is New

Choose Notifications in the right-side tools bar. The panel loads your global notification list with the newest activity first. When another comment or reaction joins a grouped row, that row returns to the top with the newer date.

You can read the list as a quick timeline. Each row combines the context needed to decide whether to open it:

•
Sender or feature symbol - Most person-triggered notices show the actor's avatar. Grouped comments and reactions use their own symbols because one row may represent activity from several people. Notices from Visual Space appear as VS Team.
•
Type badge - A small badge identifies the kind of update. Awards use the Award image, while roles and other supported notices use their matching feature symbol. Grouped comment and reaction rows use a plain feature symbol instead of a second badge.
•
Title - The main line explains what happened and names the target when that information is available. A Visual Space update can also include a short message beneath its title.
•
Sender and date - Supporting text names the sender when appropriate. Dates remain compact and relative during the first week, then switch to a date such as 24 Jul 2026 for older activity.

No unread counter is active in the tools bar today, so open the panel when you want to review notification activity.

Each row combines a recognizable type, concise event title, supporting identity, and date beside the workspace where the panel opened.

Go To The Place Behind A Notice

Select a row to open its supported destination. The target depends on what happened:

•
Posts, articles, comments, article reactions, and article Awards - Open the related article, where you can review the content and its surrounding conversation.
•
Chat Awards and chat-message reactions - Open the chat topic that owns the recognized or reacted-to message.
•
New subspaces and activities - Open the matching area in its posts context.
•
Space role assignments - Open the posts feed for the space where you received the role.
•
Terms of Service updates - Open the hosted Terms of Service page.
•
Visual Space updates - Open the referenced article in a focused reader over your current screen, so the notice does not replace your current route.

Meeting reminders do not currently arrive in the Notification Center, so check the relevant meeting or event context for schedule information.

Understand Grouped Comments And Reactions

Comments and reactions on the same target are combined to keep the list useful during a burst of activity. The row shows the number of new items in the current unseen round, not the target's lifetime engagement total.

After you check the panel, a later comment or reaction begins a fresh round. Its grouped row moves back to the top and reports only the new activity since your last check. This makes a line such as 3 new comments a prompt to revisit the conversation, rather than a count of every comment ever posted there.

Chat-message reactions can appear in this grouped form, but regular chat and direct-message unread activity stays with those conversations. The global panel is not a second chat inbox.

Read State Happens On Arrival

You do not need to open rows one at a time to clear their unread state. Once the panel has finished loading, opening it marks all unread global notifications for your account as read.

Rows that were unread on arrival keep a light highlight briefly. That temporary emphasis lets you see what was new even though the read update has already started. It is a visual review aid, not a separate saved or unread state, and the panel does not offer a mark-unread action.

For a deliberate review routine, follow Review and Open Notifications.

Know When The List Refreshes

Opening the panel requests the current list. While you are online, a newly delivered ordinary notification can signal Visual Space to refresh that list, bringing the new row into the panel.

Grouped comment and reaction updates follow a quieter boundary. They do not send the same live refresh signal, and background polling is not active. A new engagement burst may therefore remain absent from an already-open panel until you close and open Notifications again.

The same boundary matters after time away. Reopening the panel is the dependable way to request the current list; the missing tools-bar count should not be treated as proof that nothing changed.

Empty, Failed, And Unavailable Targets

An account with no notification rows sees No notifications after loading finishes. This is a settled empty state, not a request to configure anything before using the panel.

If the list cannot be loaded, the loading state ends and Visual Space presents failure feedback. Your other work remains available, and you can open the panel again later to request a fresh list.

A row may occasionally remain in the history after its content has moved, been removed, or lost the route details needed to open it. Selecting such a row leaves your current location unchanged. Return to the related space directly if you still need the item; if it is absent there too, it may no longer be available to you.

Common Questions

Why is there no number on the Notifications tool?

The visible unread counter is not currently active. Open Notifications when you want to check the current list.

Does selecting a row mark only that notification as read?

No. Read state is handled for the loaded global list when the panel opens. Selecting a row is for navigation.

Why did a grouped comment or reaction appear only after I reopened the panel?

Grouped engagement avoids the ordinary live refresh signal, and active background polling is not running. Reopening the panel requests the latest list.

Can a notification give me access to private content?

No. A notification does not widen the permissions of its target. If you no longer have access or the route context is unavailable, selecting the row cannot open that destination.

Can I choose which notification families reach the panel?

Yes. Notification Preferences explains the global controls and space-area exceptions available for your account.
